The time has come to plan for the annual road trip with the munchkins. It was to be Canada, but it has been revised. After much deliberation (discussion at Sunday dinner for five minutes) it has been decided that we will travel to Williamsburg, VA. This will be our home base. I have one teeny, tiny problem, I think. It has a pool, but it also has..........a hot tub or a whirlpool, I'm not what the heck it is called. It's what I fell into in Niagra Falls. With my camera. Fully clothed. I shall try to be more careful this year, but I am getting older, and I tend to forget things.
I have placed the reservations, I have rented the van and I have done some research, and I think I am good to go. The kids seem okay with the choice, and I so look forward to these road trips. It is so fun to get the kids away from parents and fill their heads with all kinds of good stuff that I think is important.
I was the "mystery reader" for Monkeyboy's class. I did this earlier in the year, and I am amazed at how much the kids grew since I last saw them. Thanks to Wacky Mommy, I had some good books, and the kids were delightful as usual. I asked the school if they had volunteers, and they said no. How odd is that? I love being around the kids, seeing their excitement.
As I drove to work this morning I saw that there are buds on the magnolia tree in the city. I am getting increasingly excited for spring. Bird rode his motorcycle to work today, so you know it must be getting warmer.
I had lunch with my friend, Kate. We are both on Weight Watchers. I am two pounds from my goal and Kate won't talk about it. We went to Peppi's. They have the bests hoagies and greasy french fries. We didn't bother to count points today. Talk about people watching! Kate watches and has a comment about everyone, not mean comments, just very funny.
This week is the Home and Garden Show. I am going because my back yard is a mess, and I want to dig it all up and start again. *sigh* I am kind of excited about it. But I have no idea of what to do, that's why I am going.
Happy Friday everyone!

What a wonderful idea to take a road trip! And it sounds like a great one. We went to the beach last year and the kids spent hours building an elaborate sand castle. It was interesting, because people came over to watch and ended up helping. I love having meals with friends where you can just enjoy one another's company. Good post, Mia.
They don't have volunteers at our schools, either. I'm not sure why, but when our son started school I was told that you can be a room mother, but that was about it. And I have been a room mother every year since! It's exhausting. We don't have any buds anywhere yet, but I am anxiously awaiting spring also. We love the beach, although we don't go often enough. Happy Friday to everyone.
Williamsburg is a great place to visit. You are closse to the beach, you can go to Busch Gardens and there is so much to see in Williamsburg. Sounds like great fun. The city schools need all the volunteers it can get, Mia, have you tried there? I agree about the trees. They seem to come out quicker in the city. Another reason to move to the city!
Sounds like quite a trip, Mia. You fell into the whirlpool? Were you drinking? Did you get hurt? Probably not, if you were drinking. Kidding! How awful for the camera. Guess it doesn't work anymore, right? It still sounds like a lot of fun. When are you going? Stop by and see us in Philly.
They don't have a mall in historic Williamsburg. It's very sad. But, they do have some pretty neat things. The kids will enjoy it.
Mia gets a little nervous around hot tubs. (That's what they're called Mia.) After her last little incident, she's a little afraid. When we went on the annual Road Trip two years ago, and we stopped at Niagra Falls. We were at the hotel and we decided to go swimming. Mia wanted to get a picture of Sprout, Monkeyboy, and me jumping into the water all at once. Mia is just adjusting her position as she says, "Let me just back up a little to get a better view." I look away for a moment to grab Sprout and Monkeyboy's hands, and as I look up, I realize Mia is gone!! Then Monkeyboy just says, "What's that man doing in the hot tub?" Well, it wasn't a man, it was Mia. We all left back to the hotel room with Mia dripping wet. And yes-Mia plunged into the water with the camera and cell phone. The next day, we went to the phone store to get Mia's cell phone fixed. We were looking through the cell phone selection and Sprout says, "Look Mia! It's a water-proof cell phone!" Mia just smiles a cheesy grin, and continues talking to the worker. I have to admit, that was one of my favorite road trips, and have no fear, Mia! I'll protect you from falling in the hot tub. :)
They have the same kind of show here, and I always go. It's such fun to see all the different ideas that the vendors have. I know the feeling when I look at the yard, so much work to do after the winter. Have fun Mia. What a great description, Bean, I can see it in my head right now. Lucky she wasn't hurt! Can I come on the road trip? Sounds like a lot of fun.
Enjoy the home show, Mia. Lots of good ideas there every year. The beach is a great place to relax. I like to listen to the ocean, and it's a great place to run. Kids should enjoy Williamsburg. Look around the outskirts, there are some really neat places there also. Nice comment Bean, how does Mia look floating in the hot tub?
I guess it pays to not back up with a camera in hand.
I like the city, not one for the beach. Bring them to NYC, Mia, they will like it and there is so much to do here and to see.
What a wonderful idea, a road trip. Sounds like great fun. You don't have any help? Wait, that's incorrect, you have Bean to help. The last time I was at Williamsburg was for a class trip, about 30 years ago. Oh, my, I am dating myself, arent' I?
Gosh, Mia, why not take your new car? I'll bet the kids would love it! Especially with the "feel" feature. At any rate, it sounds great.
Another camera and water story!
Skipper and I went to the beach in California with our daughter and her kids. Her and I sat on the beach near the water while Skipper decided he would walk into the surf as the tide was way out. I hear my daughter yell, Get up, Mom, the tide is coming in fast. Well, guess what the tide brought in, yes, Skipper, bouncing along as the waves pushed him in. Well, he got up, finally, full of sand in every orifice and then some. We ,of course, laughed hysterically wishing we had a camera but unfortunately, Skipper had it on him along with his wallet too. After the fact, we read a sign that said "Do not wander too far out as tide changes quickly."
Oh, my Ginger, another camera bites the dust. I am putting away my high heels and getting out my bikini. I'll leave the camera behind. It's nice to have someone take care of you, Mia. Can Bean swim or will Monkeyboy have to save you this year. Watch the tide.
Mia,
I believe you can insure your camera as an additional policy to your home owners. Call your company and ask them. It's like $50 a year and TOTALLY worth it. This, from the girl who had her laptop stolen.
:-) Michele :-)
All my equipment (laptop, camera, etc.) is covered through homeowners. Check yours, Mia, it may be covered automatically without the rider. Please do it before you travel. ;)
Mia, I think Bean has been your first Guest Blogger. Is that an Ancient Chinese Proverb, Anonymous? And Sassy Sam, we always stopped at the Williamsburg Pottery Outlet on our way down to the Outer Banks and Ocracoke Island. Sometimes went into Colonial Williamsburg, but mainly filled up the truck shopping at the outlet. I am soooo jealous Tim, that you can still wear a bikini. Hey Benji, you and your dog jogging yet in the warm weather today?
Heh heh heh loving the goofy stories -- I needed a laugh today.
Mia, what did you read them? Diary of a Wimpy Kid?
I want to move to Canada, I've decided. Permanent road trip.
