New Beginnings

It's that time of the year, a time for resolutions, a time to say goodbye to the year and reminisce on the good and the bad.
I woke up this morning to a beep on my cell phone from Buzz telling me the roads were pretty bad if I had to go to work. Giving me the best route to take always helps from someone who has been out in the snow.
I looked out my window and a heavy, wet snow had fallen through the night. As snow goes, this was beautiful. No plows or salt trucks, schools are closed for the holiday and no need to get the roads cleared quickly. A truly beautiful sight.
It's been an eventful year for me. Leaving one job, taking another. Finding a new lifestyle. Making new acquaintances. Friends having significant medical problems and one literally fighting for her life. Family visiting. Steelers winning a Super Bowl and Pens winning the Stanley Cup. Monkeyboy's team winning, winning, winning. Bean moving a bit from dance and exploring sports. A party in the heat of the summer for neighbors to meet and talk with one another on a beautiful summer night. Peg and I dancing and singing in the kitchen at midnight cleaning up after the party.
All in all, it's been a good year. I don't generally make resolutions, but this year I am going to write down at least one thing that I am grateful for each day.
Monkeyboy had some minor surgery yesterday and appears to be doing well. Bean has to have some teeth pulled in the new year for her braces.
I hope everyone has a happy and safe new year. May this year bring more happy things and the strength to deal with the not so happy things. Do you make resolutions for the new year? Care to share them if you do? And how was everyone's holiday? Christmas here was a combination of laughter, presents and fun. My grab bag gift was a great success. It was M & M's with my picture on them.
Happy New Year.

What a great gift! Laughing as I think about it. I have seen it advertised and did think about getting it for my daughter for her birthday. New year's resolutions. I make one a year and hope to keep it. Haven't decided what it will be. Last year was exercise three days a week for a half hour. It worked. And I feel better for it.

I have to confess, I have been checking daily for a new posting, Mia. Glad you had some time do do one. I love the picture, and the title is wonderful. I love the snow when it clings to everything. I try to make resolutions, but never seem to follow through with them. Maybe I make too many. I'll try to think of one good one and do it every single day. We had a pretty good year here. My husband lost one job, but was fortunate in getting another. It is less stress for him and consequently, less stress for the family. We had a wonderful, quiet Christmas, just our family since our extended family lives out of town. Happy New Year, everyone.

I don't make resolutions, too depressing as I break them. I like Mia's idea. Sometimes we forget what we have and focus on what we don't have. Hope Monkeyboy is feeling fine after his ordeal and good luck to Bean, my son had to have the same thing done when he got braces. Have a safe New Year everyone.

Nice picture, Mia. We have some not so good memories of this year, but we try to focus on the good ones. Hopefully the new year will be a better one. We are healthy, and I think that is the most important thing. I will continue to pray for your friend. Stay warm and stay safe this new year. No resolutions, I always break them come January 2 anyway!

I resolve to run my dog every day. I always start out with good intentions, but then I get lazy, and he really does need the exercise, as do I. Taking a long weekend here before I try to sell this house and move on to another. Anyone want to buy a restored house? Happy New Year

I think everyone reflects on what has happened over the past year.
The news seems focused on the decade, way too much for me! Your picture looks very peaceful, Mia. Ben, do you always restore and leave? I think I would like to stay in a house I had put that much effort into. No resolutions for me. Happy New Year everyone. I hope your friend feels better, Mia, and at peace.

That's quite a snowman. Is that a Pirate hat? Appears to be leaning a little. Very nice, Bird. By the way, how old is bird? Just kidding.

Ah, the joys of winter. Happy New Year everyone, stay warm, stay safe and don't drink too much. No resolutions here.

Nice snowman, Bird, it does look a bit like it is leaning. And the snow on the trees is beautiful. I love this time of the year. Sorry to see it come to an end. A white holiday is always nice, and this was a white one, especially this month. Happy New Year everyone.

Your posts make me laugh and think. New Year's resolutions, let me think. How about I get rid of ten pounds...to begin with! Love the snowman pictures. Code white, huh? LOL. Have a great new year everyone.

Happy New Year everyone. We spent the day yesterday building snowmen, having snowball battles, watching movies that the kids wanted to watch and eating popcorn. I am exhausted!

That snowman is hysterical! I'm sure a lot of work went into it and I'm sure when it was first done, it was lovely, but it is very funny now! I resolve to look for more bargains at the mall.

So far so good, I haven't broken any resolutions yet but then Iv'e forgotten what they were.

Our new Xmas story is our daughter who lives here sent a package to our son in Va. Talked to him on Xmas Eve and asked if he got it.
Sure, he said, you mean the shrimp?
What? It was a shirt for their son and money and musical Christmas cards wrapped in a box that was a perfect fit and just happened to be a box that used to have shrimp in it. He, of course, immediately put it in the freezer. Well, we all had a good laugh My grandson really did get cold hard cash.

Happy and healthy New Year to all!!

They are closing because his feet are on the table....GO MONKEYBOY! How funny is that? Was there once and when they handed out bread, one roll or slice at a time, that did it for me. I am not sure what to say about the snowman, Bird. I'll let it go at that.

My New Year's resolution is to not cheer for the Steelers, they do better when I sit on the sidelines and watch. So, I'll just watch.

Jessica said...

Oh, no, Tim's not cheering? Who offended him? I thought the Steelers were out of it.

Who offended Tim? Let's get them. I'm tired of winter, when does spring start. Darn snow, everyday, and it's bitter cold here, too. OK, I am done. I should do what Mia is doing, instead of complaining find something to be grateful for. I'll start that tomorrow. As this whole steeler thing was explained to me, it is very complicated and lots has to happen for them to continue.
Always have hope.

Happy Mew Year Everyone. Sorry. Couldn't resist!

AND WHO TOOK THE PIC, MIA?!? Yes, I am shouting.

I am with you Allie. But I figured I needed the exercise and with all the egg nog I consumed (230 cals for 4 oz, YIKES!) I decide to shovel the driveway. So, petrified of the cold, I put on 2 pairs of sweats, 2 hats and a scarf, boots and hunting socks. May have overdone it. Everything very toasty but my nose and tail. BTW, my driveway looks lovely!

I saw the Tavern on the Green closed. Went there once, years ago. Food wasn't that good, but it was a pretty place. So, Monkeyboy made himself at home. Good for him. My sympathy to Bird on the demise of his snowman. A fine effort, Bird.

It was nice sitting on the sidelines with a cup of hot cocoa. Go, Steelers.
