I do the same with shampoo. When I was at a hotel this summer, I tried one of the sample shampoos. It was wonderful! Smelled great, did a wonderful job of cleaning my hair without drying it. AND, it was sold at Bath and Body Works, or some such store. I raced to the store and bought the shampoo and conditioner. It only came in the large economy size. That was in August. I still have over half a bottle of each. I also have two bottles I bought from Donald, my hair stylist. Oh, and don't forget the one I got on sale at the supermarket. And of course, they all come with the must have conditioner. I have it all.
Soap. Let's talk about soap. Crabtree and Evelyn. Dove (I love their ads for young women, it's the only reason I buy it). And they have all those different scents.
Hand Cream. Nivea, Scentsations, Avon, you name it, I have it.
AND....can we talk lipstick? Oh, it is such a problem. I look and look and look. I buy. I take it home. I put it on. It looks horrendous. Once I found one that I really liked....Vrie Rose. They quit making it. I keep looking.
And what does one do with all of the tubes of lipstick that one tries once, the furiously scrubs off their face. Seems like a waste to throw it away. If you can think of something, let me know...nail polish, shampoo, lotion, lipstick.
The snow has ceased (fingers crossed) and now it is just cold. Winter. The gift shop has spring things out and the Orchid show has begun. Can spring be far behind?
Happy weekend.

Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one who had problems with lipstick! I have a whole drawer full of lipsticks that I have tried once and hated!!!! I remember when Avon would give a sample that you could try. Why don't they do that anymore? Money, I guess.
shampoo is my weakness. I just keep switching them back and forth. I have vowed to never have more than three different kinds. It's a very hard choice sometimes, though, and sometimes the dog benefits from my rush to finish a bottle.
I do the same thing, and I think it is a scheme to make more money. When I find a shade of lipstick that I like, I buy a ton of it just to have it. But then my skin tone changes with weather (sun, pale in winter, etc) and I end up not using them anyway. Can't win.
I paint my toenails with leftover polish.
What's your favorite color, Tim? Quite a variety of colors, Mia. Our CVS allows us to return any makeup item within 30 days. I do it a lot...because...those lipsticks look a lot different once you get them on!
I have no problem with this addiction. I usually stick to what I have. Shampoos may vary, whatever is on sale. Don't use nail polish, maybe if i get real daring, clear polish. You know the saying, "Can't teach an old dog new tricks"
Hopefully, Spring is not far behind but I'm afraid we are not out of the woods yet. Just keep thinking SPRING!!!
It's one of my favorite places in the mall....ulta! And if you don't like it you can take it back. They are very helpful too. Try it, Tim.
I save the old makeup for the kids when they play dress up. I have been to Ulta, Sam, and it is really a neat place. How long does Bean's hair have to be for Locks of Love, and what a wonderful thing to do. And Tim, do you have a color you prefer?
My wife has thousands of lipsticks, one for every pair of slacks, every sweater, every blouse. They all look the same to me. She always looks nice, so I guess I shouldn't complain.
Most places will take back products if you do it within a time frame. And most don't advertise it, but ask when you buy it. I agree, nothing is as disappointing as getting something home, trying it and finding it doesn't do what you thought it would do.
I'm glad I am a man, although Tim seems to be okay with nail polish. And does he favor a certain color?
My sister sold both Avon and Estee Lauder, so I had lots of those tubes that read "not for retail". Then there was that boyfriend who bought me a whole suitcase of make-up. OK, so it was Princess Borghese but REALLY. Did he think it would take that much?!? I've been known to melt the stuff to get a new shade. It works but don't think I would recommend it. And seriously, as we speak I have a zip lock full of lip and eye liner pencils. They make art out of all kinds of things so I figure, why not those garish colors? Haven't tried it yet. Oh Mia, I could go on an on.
Makeup is fun to play with, as is the nail polish, but I don't wear much of either. Too much trouble and I can't do it right. Went to a store once to have it done and felt like a clown.
We cats don't need makeup, but the tubes are fun to push around the floor.
I have melted mine together also. You can get some very interesting colors that way. The same with nail polish. I use one coat and put a second coat on top.
I never understood the makeup thing for women. I admit, my wife always looks good, but until we were married, I thought it was all natural. She spends time getting ready to go out and looks great, but I think she looks fine even without the makeup. It is almost like a ritual, getting ready. Men have it very luck, I suppose.
You have a very creative blog, Mia. I am also a social worker, working in a hospital setting. I don't wear much makeup, but I do wear lipstick. I try to find one that I like, then I stay with it until they stop making that color. Pretty much stick to the same shades. Not much creativity here!
Yes, we are very pritty, are we not Allie? Welcome Carrie!!!
Toss it in a box and donate it to the cause of Halloween... or, throw it away. If you're never going to use it, seriously, pitch it. Don't be a cosmetic hoarder!
