Summer

Will we ever be satisfied with the weather for more than two days? Is it always too hot, too wet, too cold, too humid? And what is with the weather? Are we having it worse now than ever? Or as we get older, do we just pay more attention to the weather? I have given up on watching the weather, other than my homepage printing what they think will happen. They are often more wrong than right.
I have air conditioning. I appreciate it/hate it. For me, I like open windows, hearing the rain, hearing the birds, feeling a breeze. The winter is the house closed up, hibernating. Summer is openness. So, today, I kept the house open. And tonight I died. Temp in the house was 84. Turned on the air at 5 PM, and at 8:30 temp was 80 and air had been running for 3.5 hours nonstop. So, I sit in comfort...with all windows closed. Not to hear the rain. Not to hear the birds, the dogs, the thud of the paper hitting the drive.
Prayers and positive thoughts for Sprout's mom and Joanne. Sprout's mom is having some pretty significant medical problems and Joanne is dealing with cancer and chemo.
Sprout, Bean and Monkeyboy on the streets with skateboard, bike and scooter, having a ball. How much fun is it seeing kids enjoying life? And to see them do well and excited about life. Sprout...getting a perfect report card. Bean getting a part in a production that showcases her dancing. Monkeyboy backing shortstop and getting the ball and throwing it to home plate for the out.
I walked dogs today. Prudence is rooming with the beagle twins. Riley chasing chipmunks. Happy leaping for joy and racing through the trails, wanting to greet everyone and everything. It is such a joy to work with these dogs and play with them.
Tournament ball starts this weekend and I am excited for that. It's such fun to sit in the summer sun and watch baseball.
Well, I am off to bed. Summer is officially here. Enjoy!

No, I think the weather is something universal that we can complain about and feel okay. I feel for the poeple who have suffered real losses with the horrible weather. It does seem more extreme, and I don't know, maybe it is because we are older now.

Mia, I love/hate air conditioning. How did we live without it? I also love to have the windows open and hear the sounds of summer. I cheat, I open some anyway, especially at night in the bedroom.
I am sending positive thoughts to Joanne and Sprout's mom. Hopefully a recovery is there for both of them.

Prayers for your friends, Mia.
Sounds like the kids are having a good summer. I am one who turns on the air conditioning in May and turns it off in September. I cannot take the heat and humidity. I am amazed that they actually pay people to tell us what the weather is. They never seem to get it right, and then the tell us what THEY think the weather may be in 10 days? Sunny skies while it is raining outside. I tend to go with the flow, just hoping that picnic day will be nice, and if it isn't we just bring everything inside.

The weather gives us something to complain about, that's for sure.
Little league tournaments, is there anything better or worse? Transportation, rainouts, hot dogs and nachos. Cheering for the kids and watching the disappointment and the elation.
Congrats to all the kids. And I love the dog stories!

Good for Prudence...found some friends she can live with....always a good thing. I remember all the stories from tournament ball, looking forward to those again. Good for Sprout..a perfect report card...she will go far.

I also hate air conditioning, but I love it. It was nice here tonight. Maybe we can open up the house in the morning. I wanted to open it up tonight, but was voted down. Ahhh, little league baseball. Is there anything better? And no, we will never be satisfied with the weather. Well, maybe those two days when the first snowfall falls and when the March thaw comes and it goes to 65 degrees.

I love to have my windows open. And all those sounds you hear, I hear them too. But I can't stand the heat. I hear the street sounds, the traffic, the kids, the people sitting on their stoops talking way into the early morning hours. I have this stupid air conditioner in the bedroom window. Building too old to have central air. Makes noise, freezes me out. I don't know what happened to moderation, I don't have it, Mia,and I too miss it.

Pirates at .500. Went to the game this afternoon, is there anything better than an afternoon ballgame, beer, a dog and the Pirates winning. What a finish! Hanrahan seems to be a good closer. Go Pirates. And go Monkeyboy. Bean and Sprouts, good job.

It's been a very odd summer...lots of rain, lots of rain, lots of heat and humidity. First we are flooded, then no rain and 95 degrees. Something is happening with the atmosphere, I am pretty sure. Sounds like everyone is having a good summer. Love the comments about the dogs. Prudence looks like a keeper.

I know, we allcomplain about the weather, but let's think about this....kids out of school, swimming pools open, baseball, softball. We want kids to be doing things, to be outside. If it is 95 degrees and the pools are packed, how refreshing is it to swim. How does one play and enjoy baseball and softball? And if it is raining, how does one keep kids from TV, video games, etc? I WANT PERFECT WEATHER...I AM GOING CRAZY.

I agree, how do we do this with kids over the summer? X box, play stations, TV...do we let them play, and how do we limit them?

We never had the games that the kids have now...our summers were spent playing board games like Monopoly. It's so hard to limit the time they spend on games when they play at their friend's houses. I think to try to have them away from the tv as much as possible...but then they can play on their i pod touch too.

Our kids' playstation broke in May...we aren't getting if fixed. Best thing that ever happened. Went through a couple of tough weeks, but they have found other stuff to do.

Pirates seem to be doing quite well. I went to cheer in my uniform, but there didn't seem to be any other cheerleaders, just some big bird.

was away at OBX and it was 95 there but at least you have the beach which was great.

My son has a Schnoodle (Schnauser and Poodle mix) named Daisy. The most laid back dog I ever saw. Everytime we tried to take a picture of her, she got up and left. That's about the most that she moved. Cute as a button.

Going to see a tournament game tonight. Little League (Monkeyboy) and Big League (Pirates) are all doing great!

Prayers for all
