Did you ever?

Just want to get away from everyone? Bean has a very full schedule. Dance, rehearsal, school, instrument, friends. Saturday Bean gets up early for a full day of Pittsburgh Musical Theater. Mippy and Monkeyboy go to Sprout's eighth birthday party and then leave to pick up Bean before meeting Bird for dinner (a Saturday ritual). As they arrive home, Mippy tells Bean that she has time to shower and practice instrument before they leave for dinner. Monkeyboy and Mippy get out of the car and move towards the house. Bean doesn't move, just sits in the car. Mippy yells "come on". Bean says "I don't want to". Mippy goes into the house and Monkeyboy goes towards the car. As he does, Bean locks all the doors. Monkeyboy races into the house to "tell" on Bean. He gets his ball and goes out to the car and begins to bounce it off the car window in hopes of eliciting a response form Bean. When that doesn't work, he yells quite loudly "If you don't come in, Mom's going to make you go to bed early", which is the threat Monkeyboy hears quite often. Bean then lies down on the seat to have some quiet time away from everyone and "just rest her eyes". Sometimes all I want is some quiet time. I don't have small children running around, but I have to talk to people, sometimes very, very angry people, all day. It's nice to leave the office and not have to talk on the way home. And when I get home, I just need a little quiet time. I don't much like the telephone at night...I have it all day. Just give me HGTV, some wine and quiet. I think Bean has the right idea. What makes a perfect evening for you? A night out with friends, a book and a cup of tea, or just some quiet time in the car with the windows up and the locks down? Happy Birthday Sprout!

I can see it now, what a picture of her in the car and Monkeyboy yelling! I usually just eat dinner, watch TV, surf the internet. On weekends I usually go to a local bar with friends for a couple of drinks and some dancing. I totally undrstand wanting peace and quiet though. I certainly do after work!

I come home from the day care and I agree with Bean. All I want to do is collapse in a chair with a good book! On weekends I like to garden and read. A dull life, but satisfying.

Ok, I'll say this, although people never believe me. I love to cook. I come from an Italian family and food is a big part of my family's life. I find it relaxing to cook and have friends over for a Saturday night dinner, a lot like Mia and Sunday dinners.

I love the time after the kids go to bed and I can just sit. Not read, not watch tv, just enjoy those first 20-30 minutes of quiet!

Yes, quiet time is nice. Usually, a good book does it for me. I can read even if the TV is on but I prefer reading in bed until my eyes get droopy and I can lie down and go right to sleep.

I remember the hectic times when the kids were small and running here and there with them. Boy, I sure miss that!

Calgon takes me away. Also love the 15 minutes of the semi- conscious state in the mornings before the caffeine and world kicks in!

I'm with you Kitty, I love that waking up, but not awake feeling. It's kind of nice to lie there before I begin thinking about the day.

Thanks for the perspective Ginger, sometimes it gets a little crazy here with all of the running. I guess I'll miss it, but right now I love it when there is a lull in sports, music lessons, practice!

I recently went back to the gym, and by recent I mean today was my second day. But I forgot how much that is my time... my time to think, or to not think, or to zone out into the TV show that is put in front of me. I did pilates tonight, which is one of my favorites for sure, and I was sad to learn that the instructor is going on maternity leave for 6 weeks! Anyhow, prior to that, I do lots of things when I don't want to talk. Even though I might want quiet time, I'm not a huge fan of down time - where I'm not doing anything. So it's photography, crochet, knitting, cooking, reading, computer games, etc... I like to mix it up :-)

I like to exercise, any kind. I do yoga, weights, treadmill. Anything to get rid of the stress. Then I come home and collapse!

I collapse and read and listen to music. I've had a lot of reading to catch up on your blogs, mia. Great ones, as usual. Love the picturesl, especially the train tracks. Happy birthday, sprout.

I'm stealing that idea and locking myself in my van. I better put a couple of blankets and pillows out there now, to get prepared. If someone told me, Mom's going to make you go to bed early, I would be overjoyed.

ps Mia, your pictures are so pretty!

Okay, here's my side of the story! I got home from dance/acting/singing classes. A long day it was-as usual. Mom told me to hurry up, get in the house and get ready to go to dinner. Well, I didn't really feel like it. So, I layed down in the car-enjoyed it too. But, Monkeyboy just had to ruin it!! He began to throw his little bouncy ball at the car window-BANG, BANG, BANG!! It got sooo anoying! Then, he tried to get into the car, that's when I locked the doors. Monkeyboy got the keys and brought them to the car and that's when the battle began-he unlocked the doors, I locked them, he unlocked the doors, and so on. Finally I let him in the car and and went into the house. Mom got real mad!! Listen: All I wanted to do was lay down in the car and enjoy my "alone time".
