Parties

I was supposed to take Bean to dance class tonight, but Mippy took her instead. And took Monkeyboy to his annual physical. Mippy is the mom that I never was, although when Monkeyboy was two and Oscar was new, she was chasing each of them around the house screaming obscenities. So, I went to a basket party. My neighbor, baseball mom, had this thing where you go and look at baskets and buy them. It's a fun time to get together with neighbors and such and just have some wine and talk. Baseball mom said it wouldn't be political, but it was. And I bought something...well, lots. Because of the wine. But it's okay. Beacause when women get together, it is fun. When we went on the family reunion, wacky mommy planned a breakfast for moms. I didn't want to go, but it turned out to be such fun. Wacky mommy can knit, have I told you that? And Cedar Rapids mom, the travel agent, had her daughters (the monkeyboy's love of his life) knitting hats. Anyway, it is the joy and fun of women getting together and just laughing, talking and having a good time. It's generations of women, sharing thoughts about children, husbands and life. And it was fun...tonight and in Vail. Bean, you are the next generation, along with wacky girl, and the three blondies. Keep the connection, with your generation and past and future genereations. You will never regret it. To Mime, I really like the time you and I have together without Poppy, I like getting to know you and talk to you. The walk we took together was really the best. The baskets....did I tell you they cost a fortune.......while they were nice, were only a conduit to the conversation. I learned about a man and woman meeting on the Internet and becoming friends. I listened to an older woman talking about her Christmas traditions. I listened to and eighty year old woman who works one day a week in a candy store so she can be around people. And I talked to a woman with whom I have had conversations with at work for years and finally met. I am so grateful for the women in my life, for their friendship, for their ideas, for their struggles as women, daughters, mothers and friends. We argue, Michelle is of one belief, Clare of another, but we respect each other as women. And here's to Ginger, a woman who is my role model, a great sense of humor and commitment. AND TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN BUGGING ME TO POST. Here's to us all..........thank you for your friendship and for your being a part of my family, both of blood and of friendship. And here's to Wicked Kitty, who challenges me and makes me think, even when I don't want to, who always makes me think I can do better, both personally and professionally and is an inspiration to me with her knowledge and her talents.......Happy Boss Day.

My friends and I have dinner once a month at each person's house. We all bring something and talk until the wee hours of the morning. We have been through some bad times together, but also some wonderful times. We have been doing it for ten years, and it is something we all look forward to each month.

for me, working in the library is like being a kid in a candy store! smart idea, to work only ONE day a week in a candy store. Ha ha.

I'm glad I passed on the knitting to the girls. We love our crazy yarn.

Love you, too, Mia. That was a fun breakfast. Only remember none of our credit cards would work! I was so mad. I was all, "My credit is STERLING."

Glad you got some baskets. Can candles be far behind?

Bout time you blogged, Mia. How embarassing when your credit card doesn't work and you have no idea why! When I go home I meet with all of my friends from high school that still live in town and we have a blast! We spend the night together and do the same goofy talking, laughing and sharing of secrets. Now we share some wine too, and have a blast. Girlfriends are the best!

We get together in our neighborhood a lot in the summer for cookouts. It is a lot of fun, most of the time. We have the kind of neighborhood where we can call on each other any time we need help.

We'll see who of the men, is bold enough to post. :)

This isn't going to turn into one of those "women only" blogs, is it? You know, guys get together too. Anyway, glad to see you back to blogging Mia

OK, Nate, we have to stick together. Let the women have their get togethers, we will have a beer and watch the football games, the hockey games. And both come back to reality with an appreciation of each other. How's that for pouring it on?

Good move Ben, we cannot let this become a blog for women only. We play you tomorrow, so we'll make it a man's afternoon, beer and football.

Better. My nose was "out of joint." More fun than etch-a-sketch. For those of you who remember.

Skipper and I were away for a week so I feel like I missed out on a lot of blogs. Read the last three and can comment on some. Yes, it's fun to get together with "the girls" and it always is worth a bunch of laughs. Can't wait to see the baskets, Mia.

We had a good time in Branson MO but came home with laryngitis and a terrific headcold. My eyes are bloodshot, coughing, sneezing and the whole nine yards but Skipper still loves me so that's all that counts.

Will try to keep up with the blogs now that things are back to normal, except my body.

Oh, Kitty, I am surprised. "Whatever" is such a dismissive term. OK, I'm sure the others wouldn't mind if you joined us and cheered for the home team. ;)

There is a mystery when women get together, a kind of bond that men can't equal.

If you won Ben, I found my saddle shoes and glad my cheering helped. If you lost however, sorry I couldn't make it. Couldn't find my pom-poms. Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Mia,
Thank you for the wonderful comments :-) As you and I so often discuss, I go to lunch every week with my girlfriends. We call it "ladies lunch." The wonderful thing about it, is that we are all in different stages of our lives (married, kids, single, no kids, jobs, etc.) somehow we always manage to reconnect over that Sunday Lunch. We take turns picking the resturaunt and time, and we're very committed to being there unless there is something else very pressing to do. Sometimes, family are the people that you choose. So... if you're out in the North Hills some Sunday afternoon, and you see a group of girls laughing hysterically at themselves because no one knows what to do about the screaming infant with us... well, that's us :-)
