What Goes Around......

Walking with Mippy, Bean and Monkeyboy. First it was rocks that Monkeyboy picked up. Smooth flat rocks, round rocks, big ones and little ones. Too many to carry in his small pockets, so distributed to those who had "deep pockets". We had an assignment for photography class to photograph something that illustrated texture. Sunday dinner...a bag on the table filled with acorns and buckeyes. Monkeyboy is very particular about acorns. They have to have the "hat" on them. And yes, I could borrow them for my picture. So, I take them home and try different pictures, different settings on the camera, and come up with which I am somewhat satisfied. Alas, the cat found one and knocked it to the floor with her gigantic paw and alas, the "hat" fell off. A dilemma ensued. Do I glue the hat back on, hoping he won't notice (I think I once replaced a goldfish that died so I didn't have to face the kid), or do I come clean and offer to try to replace it? I'll face Monkeyboy and suggest that we try together to find a new one with a hat. He likes Ava, so maybe he'll forgive her. Did you collect things in the fall as a child? I liked leaves and always tried to preserve them as we learned in Miss Frey's biology class.

I have to laugh, because our kids do the same thing, they pick up things and start a collection. And invariably, part of it gets lost or thrown by mistake, and the tears begin. We have a rule, you are only allowed to collect two things from the ground at a time. Helps sometimes.

My son collects rocks. My wife collects leaves. Fall is a good time for them. It isn't for me. Leaves and rocks, all over the house.

I love the picture. I never collected anything in the fall like leaves or acorns. And if the hat had fallen off an acorn, I am pretty sure if I collected it and my mother saw it, she would have thrown it out. She wss a neat freak.

I, too, saved leaves. Pressed them in big books, then framed them and hung them on the bedroom wall. We aren't having much of a fall here yet, but I keep hoping. I love when the leaves turn colors. And I love to walk through them and hear the crunch. Good texture in the picture, Mia. I'll give you and "A".

How cute! Monkeyboy has won my heart. What a sweet thing to do, to share his acorns. And you had to allow the cat to go near them. I'm sure he will enjoy going with you to pick out new ones. It is a wonderful picture.

Yep, collected leaves and ironed them with waxed paper. Picked wild flowers and pressed them in pages of books that still fall out onto the floor today. Does bring back memories.

Luv the pic. Very interesting and it definitely has texture. These days I collect cat tails to make floral arrangements. Along with other wildflowers. Those cute little acorns can have cute little worms in them too. YIKES. Go Monkeyboy!

BTW Ben, those rubbery things on the end of Jen's baton (GIVE IT BACK!!) is so it doesn't hurt when it hits you on your head. :)

Yes, Ben, give it back. Your comment brought back that I pressed flowers also, Kitty. I have part of my prom flowers in a very large dictionary.

If only I stuck to inanimate objects. While I did collect rocks from time to time, I have always liked to collect living things. Hurt birds, lost cats, tadpoles, lightning bugs, salamanders, etc. Luckily I didn't put them in my pockets, but I always insisted on helping and keeping them (if possible). Unfortunately, I was usually forced to let them go, but it was probably better for them anyhow.

Tadpoles, frogs, bugs of all kind. Fed them, watered them, but mostly they just died. I then decided not to become a vet. My dog is very happy that I don't try to treat him medically.
