Can It Be?

Winter over? Probably not, but one can always hope.
We all spent most of the day outside. Mippy and I went to the cemetary to walk and saw a hawk flying around. If you look closely, you can see it in the top of the tree.
There was a lot of damage this year to trees. The broken tree caught my eye.
Then we went to the track after taking Oscar back home. Monkeyboy hit balls with Bird and Bean caught balls in her lacrosse thingy while Mippy and I walked the track.
So, what do you think about plastic flowers? We have yet another neighbor who puts them in a flower box on her porch. And the are obviously plastic...I mean, who has flowers that are THAT color?
Some years ago a decorator came to my house to re-do the living room. She did a wonderful job and I think it looks great. She was into silk flowers, and I have to admit that at first I liked them. Now they are all dusty and I have no idea what to do with them. I'm sure they were expensive, so I hate to just pitch them. Besides, the cat has been playing with them, slowly pulling them apart. I love flowers, but I think this year I will decorate that table with real flowers. Ava will like that, also.
It's been a great weekend. Had a wonderful dinner tonight and everyone was mellowed out from being outside all day. I like the longer hours in the evening and it is beginning to be light during the morning when I drive to work. Ahhhh, made it through another winter!
Michele went on a road trip to California a few years ago. She took a gnome with her and posed him along the way. I suggested to Bean that we do the same, take an object of some sort and set him up along side a swimming pool, or perhaps having a cup of coffee at breakfast. Then I can post them here so that everyone can see the road trip from the perspective of an inanimate object. I think it would be great fun. Can you think of what we might use for an object?

I see it! I see the hawk! And the kids on the trampoline are the picture of breaking out in the warm weather. Plastic flowers make me smile. They remind me of my grandmother, who had them all over her house. Now, with plastic, you just threw them in the kitchen sink when they got dirty. She had them for every season, and packed them away until the next year. She even had green ones for St. Patrick's Day, though I don't remember what they could have been!

Try rice to clean silk flowers. Take a paper bag and place a cup or two of white rice (uncooked of course). Place the plant inside and shake. Give it a few good shakes and the rice will dust the plant off. This works great with wreaths and dried flower arrangements too. It has always worked for me.

Why don't you take a stuffed animal, one that is special to the kids. They have an ad on TV showing a father taking a bear or something of his daughter's on a business trip. So, the rice has to be raw, Angela? I had to laugh at that one, but probably someone would use cooked rice. It amazes me that they still sell plastic flowers, what with all of the silk ones. I like fresh ones, too, Mia, but I can't afford to have them all the time. I supplement with silk flowers. Didn't mean to laugh at your comment Angela, actually, I am going to try it. And I'll make sure to do it BEFORE I cook it! Thanks for the tip.

What's wrong with plastic flowers? I use them to decorate all my hats. They look positively stunning. I especially like the red ones.

Mia, you should go to the botanical garden in Brooklyn when you come to NYC. An amazing and beautiful exhibit of flowers. We don't have much room here for a flower garden, but I do have flower boxes that abound with flowers...and no, they are not plastic, though I am sure, Tim, that your hats are done tastefully and with the utmost care to compliment your high heels! How about a build a bear with different outfits for each stop?

Remember when there was that shortage of rice? I think Someone was cleaning a lot of silk flowers! I like walking through the woods and picking things like cat tails (OUCH!) and thistle to make unique floral arrangements. I think Barbie would enjoy a road trip for her 50'th birthday, especially since she has broken up with Ken, you know.

Uh Oh, Kitty was picking cat tails? How cruel. I don't have any silk flowers, nor do I have plastic flowers, but, hey..Tim, if it turns you on. I think Tim is probably a football player or a wrestler. He just enjoys putting us on, and his comments do bring some smiles. Regarding the road trip, Mia, I think you should take Oscar and have him pose. Nice pictures.

What a good idea, taking something familiar on a road trip. I like tigger's idea, you should buy one build a bear and pick out the outfits for the trip. I have never owned plastic flowers or silk flowers, although my apartment is covered with plants, all of which are real. So, I can't help you there, Mia.

I can't grow anything. I can appreciate wanting to have plants and flowers in one's home, but I don't think they would survive in my house.

I will look around the mall for an appropriate item to take on the road trip. How fun is this? We can all be a part of the road trip. When is it, Mia? Kitty, I got another pair of jeans. Go to Bannana Republic, they have a great sale. I love this, Mia, it is like we are all planning your trip. I love the picture of the kids on the trampoline. Total freedom.

I agree with Anonymous, nothing would grow here. Mold, perhaps, but nothing else. I like the pictures, Mia, and I, too, saw the hawk.

The picture of the kids on the tramp personifies spring. And yes, I see the hawk, although I'm not sure I would know what it was if you hadn't said! I like the idea of taking the bear and dressing him/her up for each picture, but that might be expensive.

I like something like the gnome. The bear is a cute idea, but maybe a troll. It was a beautiful weekend here, also, Mia. I think (fingers crossed) that winter might be over.

I began to work the soil in the garden this weekend, so I know spring is here. Veggies and flowers. We don't have the deer problem here that you have there Mia, at least not yet.

Mia, the perfect item to take on your road trip. The stuffed beaver that you got the kids for Xmas. I loved that beaver and I would love to see him again in many places.

I do have fake flowers but loved getting the real ones even though they don't last long enough. Spring is here so we can all enjoy the flowers outside soon.

I like the silk flowers. I don't pay a lot of money for them, so I don't care if they get dusty. I'll have to try the rice thing, sounds like a good idea.

I wonder what my wife would say if I brought home plastic flowers for our anniversary.

Anonymous said...

Nothing. She would say nothing. But it would be a very lonely anniversary, if you get my drift. ;)

LOL. Good one, and welcome, Kevin's wife.

I like the pictures, Mia. It is warm here and trees are beginning to green. I think the worst may be over. Good idea for the road trip.

Can I join this crew? It sounds like a good group.

To be that young and free, to jump on the trampoline and enjoy the freedom. Welcome to all that have joined us.

I like the beaver. I think we need to take a vote. Barbie dolls, sorry kitty, is old.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Ben, I agree, the stuffed beaver is perfect. And please, no cutesy outfits, just the beaver.

Anonymous said...

Barbie is NOT old, Ben. How dare you! She is odd, I'll grant you that, but my Barbie's are still in the attic. I loved playing with Barbie dolls. My daughter will have no part of them. Kids!

Ken and Barbie broke up?

Anonymous said...

A beaver, Benji? They are not very eco friendly. I saw one clobber a man once with their tail. May I suggest choosing something more purr-fect from the FE-line of persuasion? And Barbie is sooo not old. I prefer to think of her more as ethereal. BTW, Tim, please try to keep up! To the 3 Anonymouses out there, we can all help you with monikers. Sorry, too much Starbucks today.

Hey Pritty Kitty, you haven't seen this beaver. He is the cutest thing and can't imagine he would hurt anyone. We found him at IKEA just lolling around the furniture waiting for someone to take him home and Mia did.

Take him on the trip, Mia, he will be a lot of fun, for sure.
