Saturday in the 'burgh

Jim, the plumber, came. It is not a pretty picture. Thanks, Ben, for the suggestion, and I probably should have listened. Instead of focusing on the leak, Jim chose to focus on the drain. Many, many, many dollars later and the faucet is still dripping, kind of. Needless to say, Jim will be making a return trip, even though the drip comes and goes...that's the drip in the faucet, I wouldn't dream of calling Jim a drip. Did you ever feel as though you are being taken????
I am still awaiting the guy's idea about my back yard. I can't wait to get started. Getting estimates on getting a tree stump removed. He said he can even design something for under the magnolia tree, which by the way, is so very ready to break out in flowers. I am hoping they hold off because we are to get SNOW in the next few days.
It's a busy time of the year. Baseball starts, lacrosse in full swing, school winding down, my job winding down...just thought I would throw that in the mix...and several trips coming up in the next few months. Tigger, our first one is to your fair city. And we are seeing "Wicked".
Some of the recent pictures are when I went for a walk on Thursday at work. Lost my swipe card along the way, but it was returned. It was a beautiful day for a walk, and it feels good to get out of the office for a while.
I am playing the guitar again. Have to prepare for Bruce to come to the burgh. You never know, he might call me on stage to help with the band.
So, the battery for FiOS is fixed, the faucet is not. Wonder what it will be next? Guess this happens in old houses. Thanks, Ben, for your help, it at least gives me information to ask questions.
Have a great weekend!

I always feel as though I am taken advantage of with my house. My husband can fix some things, but when we have to call an electrician or plumber I panic. It seems they always find more to fix that what you thought they had to fix. And who knows if they are being honest? I just keep my fingers crossed. I would think, Mia, that he would have to come back and fix it free of charge. Good luck.

Looking forward to having you visit our city, Mia. It is a great time to come, a little chilly here now, but should be getting warmer everyday. There is so much to see and do here, let me know if you need any suggestions. You will love "Wicked", one of the best plays on Broadway.

Saw Wicked here in Pittsburgh and loved it. Did read the book which was good also.
Sorry to hear about your problems,Mia but it's true, you are at the mercy of the so called professionals.
Jen, we are the same here, Skipper is very handy but a little afraid of the electric jobs. He just finished his new quarteround project so I have to find a new one for him. Keep 'em busy!
Still love your pics, Mia, keep them coming.

When we bought our first car it was a disaster. We were young and stupid. We knew we were getting fleeced, but we kept on with it. Now we have a signal to each other when we are talking to plumbers, electricians, and yes, car dealers. So, we have all been there mia, just don't use him after he fixes this, neighbor or not. Sad, isn't it?

Mia, If he changed the washers, that should have done it, but if not, the stem may need to be changed. Either way, he should only charge for the parts since he already charged you and didn't do the job. And, make sure he changes the washers and/or stems on both the hot and cold. We have all been taken, I guess it's why I do what I do. I just plug away until I get it right. It's too bad that we can't trust people to be honest in their dealings. Keep your fingers crossed, I think I have a buyer for my house. Then I start all over again, but I've had a good rest. Supposed to snow here Monday, I think, Mia. Cover that tree!! They are all out here in the city. Flowers and green leaves. It is nice to see it.

Final four starts tonight. And then the last game tomorrow night. Pitt may be out, but it is still exciting! Yes, baseball has started in my house also. Time to start running to practice, games and then tournament. Best time of the year.

I tried to fix an electrical problem. Never will again. It hurt. I know my limitations, which are many.

Mia, Bruce is coming to Denver on this coming Friday. I can't wait to see him. He is pretty much sold out but we were able to get pretty good seats. I'll let you know how it was, although I can't imagine it being anything but great.

We had to give up two weeks of food to afford the tickets.

We don't know what we are doing around the house either, Mia. We made such a mess about our plumbing I'm sure it costs us double what it would have. Handy people, we are not. Sometimes we get something right, but that is very seldom. We keep saying we are going to go to classes to learn simple repairs, but I don't even know where to look for them!

Our Lowes store here in Pittsburgh has a lot of help. You can ask them and they will walk you through a project. Their website also has lots of videos for projects as well as a how to library. It really is helpful. Pick a small project and go there to get help. It's not rocket science, and don't let it intimdate you, really!

OK, Ben, I have to say that you sound very knowledgeable about home stuff. How did you learn about all of this? I find you comments and hints very helpful, and I, too, thank you.

Wish Bruce were coming to my city...way too small. But I can stil enjoy his music.

Home repairs are not my strength, listening to Bruce is. I can't fix anything, but I will try, Ben, you have inspired me. We should all take on a small task and have success. Or hire Skipper or Ben.

We have a place in our city called "Ask for the best". It has a listing of plumbers, electricians, doctors, all kinds of things. You have to join and pay, but once you find someone you can cancel the deal. It's $30 a year and well worth it. They even have sitters, of which I have never used, but that's how we got our plumber. And he is a gem.

Ben, I just went to Lowe's on line, and you are right! What a great idea. They have some really neat how to things on there. Thanks!

Ben, can you turn my third floor loft into an art studio? Oh, did I mention I have no third floor loft? But I like the way it sounds.
