Winter

The snow is beautiful really getting on my last nerve. When I woke up Monday morning, which was supposed to be snow free, there was snow coming down and snow on the street. But, it was supposed to warm up as the week went on and up to forty degrees by weeks end. And it did, thank goodness.
Our city, in all of it's infinite wisdom stupidity, decided to close down two of the best sledding spots in the city...Frick Park and Flagstaff Hill. They said it was for safety reasons. They lie.
Here we go....
When I was a child.....
They closed the street for sledding.
I never wore helmets for biking.
Car seats???? I don't think so!
No mandatory seat belts that warn screech an annoying beep for the first three miles.
And I am tired of shoveling snow.
While we are at it (well, I am at it, I don't know about you) let's talk about the garbage men.
Are they trained to be annoying? Because they are. I understand that it is not a quiet job. But do they have to back up the street with the truck beeping all the way? Do they have a contest to see who can throw the can the furthest? All this at 5:00 AM. Then they leave (laughing all the way) as the recycle truck begins their rounds...much the same.
And let's talk about the plow trucks that block the drive as soon as it is cleared.
And how about the jerk up the street that throws all of his snow on the street after the plow has been down.
I am reading a great author and he has a series of books, all mysteries. I am reading non-stop, which is why I haven't been blogging. I know, I am getting all kinds of gentle not so gentle hints from folks.
Remember when I told you I was going to begin all kinds of projects now that I can't sit in my yard to read.
What do you mean, you don't remember.
I'm sure I told you.
Do I have to repeat everything I say.
Oh, wait, maybe I didn't tell you. Hmmm. Well, anyway, I have not begun one project. Well, there was putting one group of pictures on a CD. There was the matting of one picture. Wait, I never actually matted it, I just cut the mat. Hey, it's a beginning.
My blog seems to have a different tone tonight.
I think a glass of wine is in order, and shame bravo to the kids who ignored the signs on Flagstaff hill and went sled riding yesterday.

I am with you mia. I am sick of the snow, the freezing rain and all that goes with it. Our town is nearly out of salt, cinders, etc and we are still in January. Yes, I agree, we had none of those safety features and we all lived to be adults. I cannot wait until spring gets here! Glad to see you back blogging. You have to take some time away from the reading. Wonderful picture of the darn snow though.

I'll bring a glass, Mia, do you share your wine? We get your weather, and let me tell you, you can stop sharing anytime now. It did get warmer here, which just brought the freezing rain. It's okay. We stay here because we like the changing seasons. They can change anytime now. That is a beautiful picture. What books are you reading?

I know, all of these safety stuff makes me crazy. Have you ever tried to put one of those car seats in your car??? Impossible. And once they are in there, don't ever take them out. And the sledding thing is about protecting the city. It certainly isn't about the kids. Let's revolt. Or have a glass of wine.

Mia, I am thinking you don't live in the city...because in the city, they do nothing. Beautiful picture. Don't drink wine, but if you have beer, I'll join you. I think this hits us because we haven't had a bad winter in a few years. But spring will come and you can go back to your place in the yard. We miss your posts, though, so don't get too enthralled with those books.

Good for the kids! Although they may get yelled at, it probably is worth it. I loved to go sledding as a kid, in fact I love it as an adult. I just don't get much chance to do it anymore. We always went to a park to do it. As sick as you are of the snow, Mia, that is a beautiful picture. Isn't it funny how when we know we have the time to do projects we don't want to do them? I, too, was going to organize closets after the holidays. Haven't even wanted to do that!

There is a letter to the editor in today's paper, Mia, regarding Frick Park. We always go to the park. And the hill kills me going up, but what a feeling coming down! Our garbage men are the same, and yes, I think they do go through training. Or maybe they are just angry that they have to up that early when we are still TRYING to sleep.

I don't even know when my garbage man comes around. Our bedroom is in the back of the house, and when I go to bed, I sleep verrrry soundly. Is that picture for real, Mia? It is beautiful! I find the best way to deal with winter is to go to the mall, which is where I am headed now! Have a great weekend

I still don't wear a helmet when I ride a bike and no one can make me.

Pulled my back out, and guess how? Shoveling the snow that the plow had thrown in front of my drive. With the salt in it, it had begun to melt, then froze and it was a mess. But then, I don't have to shovel for awhile!

We are supposed to get warmer still tomorrow. The city looks so dirty with the snow right now, but the park still looks good. We always have gone to Central Park to sled, don't have to worry about them closing that down!

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have the joy that our kids have when they see the snow? It is nice at first, but then I get sooo tired of it. I keep saying to my husband that we have to move, but then we would miss the changing of the seasons.

Yes, I know what you mean about closing things down that the kids enjoy. My grandson couldn't go skiing at Boyce Park which has been putting in an new ski lift for three years but can't run it because they have to get it inspected and never go the right permit. What a load of crap!

We still have lots of snow in our yard but with all this rain, it should dissapear soon. Even as adults, we would sled ride down our back hill without any real protection and I guess, we are lucky to have survived.

Well, the garbage man and snow plow people have to work too so I don't complain about them. In fact, the garbage man has a job and all he can eat. HA HA

lol, Ginger. We have been getting freezing rain here, and I keep thinking that this will pass---someday---and we will forget about it as soon as spring comes around. Our garbagemen come very early and throw cans too, and have ruined about three that we have purchased. One time we just put out plastic bags, but the critters got into it and our garbage was all over the place. Can't win.

I keep focusing on the kids and their love of the snow. It isn't helping much! I should not complain, our snow is gone for the most part, but the bitter cold remains. Your picture is absolutely beauthiful, Mia.

Snow is all gone here, thank goodness for now.

Always wondered what one would do with that "strike-through" thing. I love the tiny snowflake in branch photo. Do you give your photos names, Mia? Some of the best designs are inspired by Nature. The snow was pretty in the beginning but I am now quite ready for the next seasonal change.
