What a Day!

Wow, what else can I say. What a day! I awoke and such anticipation. Peg and I have been on the phone or together all day. We went to Jenna's home to be all together during the ceremony. We watched in anticipation and wonder as all the people gathered on the mall. Some sadness that we hadn't gone. We ate, had some wine with a toast, talked about the road to the White House. I am not accustomed to having wine at noon, so came home and took a nap before the events tonight. Went to Mr. Small's in Millvale for a party. It was wonderful! The energy, the elation, the spirit of community. I am exhausted. This is not the end, it is the beginning. Peace.

Mia! You went to Mr. Smalls??? That's like a rock-band joint! Hope you didn't do anything I wouldn't have done... but then, that leaves you some serious room to party so you're probably okay.

I too like to take naps after wine. I watched the events from the conference room today, miraculously there was reception on the TV in there. I was glad I got to see it live. No matter how the next four years go, this is still a day I plan to tell my children about. :-)

I've been to Mr. Smalls, fun place. My friend's son plays in a band that has been there. It was quite a day yesterday. One for history, even if you didn't support him. My wall, Kitty, is down and my kitchen is now twice the size. All I have to do now is finish the cabinets. Oh, and good job with the game Sunday, I forgot to tell you.

Ben, I need some work done in my house, do you travel? It was a sight to behold. Kitty, what size jeans do you wear? I know the mall inside and out, so I'll look for them and by the time you pay for postage, you could have bought them yourself! Wonder if the first lady would hire me to be her personal shopper. Wouldn't that be a job!

The kids school wasn't going to have the inaugeration on, so we kept them home from school so we could all watch it together. We were just going to have them watch it as a new item later in the day, but since we weren't there, we thought the next best thing was watching it with them. To them it wasn't clear about what was so special about this particular election. We live in a very integrated neighborhood, their doctor is of color, to them color means nothing. To explain it is hard, but what an opportunity to generate the discussion of civil rights. Too young to understand fully, but it is the beginning of understanding how important yesterday was. I am anxious to hear what Tigger has to say.

It is time, I think, to let go of the negative comments about the past eight years. It is over, and if we truly want change, let's work together to get it. It upset me, as much as I wanted Obama, to hear yesterday the crowds when Bush left. And the comments today that people are saying about him. Let it go and let's move on. I think Sassy would make a great personal shopper!

It was a day to remember. Their kids, especially Sasha, were amazing through the ceremony, sitting quietly in the cold and appearing to listen to every word.

I wear a size zero jeans. NOT! But do you know, Sassy, where they keep the batons and the pom poms in the mall? Jen and I shall need our accoutrements by February 1, 2009.

My celebratory drink, Mia, was a tall glass of creamy milk. Wine always makes my head hurt but does help with the catnaps. Meow.

I actually missed the original swearing in but caught it later.
Very impressive day but one inaugural ball was enough.

Barack has a lot of charisma as did Kennedy and I hope it fares him well.

Our furnace went out briefly and was only noticed when it got to 60 in the house. Thank goodness it is working again. I love the taste of spring we get in January. It usually comes at the end of the month, and you are right, Mia, it gives me hope for better weather. Keep warm, everyone.
