WOW

I have never seen the Steelers play as well as they did against San Diego. Way to go, Steelers!
After much discussion, Peg, her son and I have decided to not make the trek to DC for the inauguration. In speaking with a resident of DC, to Congressman Altmire's office and various others, it was decided to not go down. The biggest obstacle was the transportation. It was leaving us further out of DC where we would have to take the metro, which everyone said is going to be very crowded. Then there would be the problem getting back to the transportation point! Tough decision, a lot of disappointment, but I think it is for the best. It is history making, but we will all get together here to watch it on TV.
A cold and blustery weekend here in Pittsburgh. Of course, they were calling for six inches of snow...I think we got....maybe two. They have a way of absolutely puttiong people in a panic for no reason.
I was looking forward to sledding. Bird makes a really neat sled track, and it is pretty fast. We have tried sleds, but the best seem to be the saucers, although they are certainly much more difficult to steer. The saucer zooms down the hill with Oscar barking with delight, me screaming at the top of my lungs and everyone laughing and having a good time.
Growing up I lived in a community where you could walk to everything. We lived on a street with a big hill, or what seemed like a big hill at the time. Sometimes they would close off the street so we could sled down the hill. They also froze over the tennis courts so one could ice skate. I didn't get ice skates till I was in high school, and only used them a few times, but that was fun also. You could walk to Bard's Dairy Store and get hot chocolate after you were done skating and sledding.
It seems to me that we had more snow back then, but I'm not sure, it could be one of those memory things. School was never delayed or called off since everyone could walk to school. People in that community took public transportation more than they drove to work, so the roads were never cleared as quickly in our community.
Well, it was a good football game tonight, and next week we play the Ravens. Even though we were well ahead, I get very nervous!

Kids are in bed reading, television is turned off after 4, count them 4, football games on. I think I am sick of football. I am glad your team won, mia, but trying to keep kids quiet so dad can scream is difficult to say the least. I think you made a wise decision about Washington, mia, it is supposed to be a zoo. My sister lives in Maryland, and she said they are worried about water, food, restrooms and transportation. So many people want to be a part of it.

I agree, mia, they played the best game that they have played in a few weeks. Actually, this season. They had a great running game, very strong. Not going to DC, huh? I don't blame you. What if you got stuck down there with no computer? We couldn't read your blog. So, I, for one, am glad you are not going. Watch it on TV, you will be able to see more and get the stupid commentary that they offer. I have begun to remove a wall in my house, so if I don't get to respond for a few days, you will know why.

Mia, did you grow up in the city? That game was the best. Ben was on today, and I hope he can keep it up. The running game was superb. I know, Cathy, I did the same thing. Screamed while I told the kids to be quiet. Thank goodness for understanding wives. I used to play hockey with a bunch of guys, and I agree, Mia, it used to be colder and we used to have a lot more snow. I remember building snow forts and havin great snowball battles. AND sledding down pig alley, but stopping at the bottem was a little frightening, since it went out onto 28.

Football is boring. Now, let's discuss the malls and all the great sales they have going on right now. I heard DC ws going to be a mess, mia, and I agree with Ben, (strange as that may seem, just kidding Ben) we are afraid that you would get stranded and we couldn't read your blog. By the way, I got a great pair of jeans for only $5.00.

The only reason we are going is because the train leaves us off at Union Station, which is within walking distance and we already got our tickets, so we will be sure we are getting there and back! At least you have a neat keepsake in the invitation. I still like to ice skate and sled. We have had lots of snow here to do it, too! I think you are right, there was more snow when I was a kid too.

I heard on the radio today that during Reagan's second swearing in they had to move everything indoors because of the weather and they had to cancel the parade and thousands of people were stranded in DC. I love those first snows of the winter. Snowmen, sledding, hot chocolate...oh wait, wet mittens, runny noses. Well, two or three days would be fun of winter weather.

Way to go Steelers!!

They have kits now for making snowmen. I couldn't believe it. Whatever happened to rocks, carrots, old hats and sticks?

Snowmen with sticks and stones abound here in my neighborhood, SW2, come visit

BORING?? There's no boring in football. Win or lose, it's always exciting. As long as the Steelers have a running game, I think they will do fine.

A 5$ pair of jeans is a great buy but it will never beat a good football game especially when the Steelers are on.

You go,guys and bring it home!

Funny, I was just thinking about whatever happened to all the snow that I remember when I was a child. Ohhh, Sassy, I shall have to follow you around the next time you go the mall. Very amazing price on the jeans! And as for the game, I may even actually watch it this weekend. Stay warm all, very frigid upcoming temps.
