Worm Moon

I took Monkeyboy swimming tonight as Mippy had to pick Bean up from Lacrosse practice. Monkeyboy has progressed amazingly in swimming. He actually appeas to be having a great time. Bean got hit in the bean tonight by a ball. She claims she will probably have to play defense since she can't hit the ball straight. We came out of the school and observed the full moon. Mippy proceeded to explain the "worm moon", so I thought I might share it with you.
The 'Full Worm Moon' is the moon that occurs in March when the sunlight is getting stronger and the frozen ground begins to thaw. You can tell the worms have begun to come awake when you find the little curly mounds of dirt on the ground. These mounds, or castings are part of nature's way of preparing the earth for new growth. Then the flowers and herbs and trees and green grass suddenly burst out and let us know spring is here. (funtrivia.com)(Mippy.com)
It is a beautiful night out there, with that full moon. The picture doesn't do it justice, of course. I didn't want to alarm the odd neighbors beside me by standing in the dark taking pictures. Most neighbors would understand, but I don't know these neighbors at all. There seems to be a large turnover in the house next to me, and I'm sure it has nothing to do with me! This couple moved in about two years ago, and I don't think they have ever said a word to me. I recently found out that they had a baby, and when I told Peg, she said she had never seen them. We live in a very diverse neighborhood, people of all ages. And although we aren't the kind of group that gets together all the time, we really help out when there is a problem or when someone needs help. Through frozen pipes, frozen drains, trees falling, weddings, births, and yes, deaths. We are there for one another.
I have a friend who knows none of his neighbors. Says he as no desire to know them. I think that must be lonely sometimes. I am the type that speaks to everyone, even total strangers. I sometimes embarrass people I am with by doing that. Makes me smile!
Enjoy the worm moon as the earth gets ready for new life.

Oh my gosh, mia is posting! I love the pictures. Bean's costume is great. And the picture of the raindrops. Spring is coming, I can feel it. We have neighbors that we don't like. They don't like it when the ball goes into their yard, they don't like the kids screaming with delight as they run through the sprinkler or sled down the hill. Sometimes, adults need to be kids. We have another neighbor who drinks all weekend, but he is harmless and quite funny.

Let's talk about neighbors. I live in the city, so there is a VERY diversified cross section (is that redundant?). We have homeless shelters, addicts, young families and folks like me, who buy old houses and fix them up. There is tremendous pleasure in reviving old houses. Our neighborhood is full of people with skills to help in this endeavor. It brings people together. And I agree, Mia, we help each other out when things get tough. We have a lot of violence in this area, and we do look out for one another in so many ways. The pictures are wonderful. The raindrops on the tree, and the one of Bean with her feathers trailing out behind her. And the moon is beautiful tonight.

I'm not even sure who my neighbors are, Mia. Was that comment made for me? I have friends and really have felt no need to get to know my neighbors. The pictures are very nice. I like the one of the raindrops.

Our neighborhood is one of young couples with kids. It is great for the kids, but not much diversity here. We all know each other, know each other's kids. Sometimes I think I would like to live where we don't have to drive everywhere, but the kids are settled here in school and with their friends.

We live near a mall, does that surprise anyone? As I sit here looking at the moon, all I can think of is worms. Yuk.

Laughing, as I read Sam's comment. When my children were small, we also lived in a sub-division and I think it was great for the children, crazy for us. Sounds like Monkeyboy is turning into a real swimmer. I'm glad he seems to be having fun. The pictures are great Mia. I love the one of Bean leaving the stage. Her costume is so bright and colorful!

I'm with Ben, I live in the city also and I love it. We have kids, older people, different races and cultures. I think the burbs are great for kids, but the city has much to offer also. Full worm moon, huh? Conjures up all kinds of images. It is a beautiful moon though.

Wow, I just looked out the window when I read your post! What a beautiful moon. And the pictures are wonderful, especially the one with the drops of water. Have to run, but it does not surprise me that Anonymous doesn't know his neighbors, and it certainly doesn't surprise me that Sassy lives near a mall! THAT comment made me laugh.

I don't know what I would do without my neighbors. I don't have family nearby, so when I need a babysitter in a pinch or help with something in the house, we ask our neighbors. I think the pictures are really nice, Mia. I like the one of Bean.

I just moved into a new place and two neighbors came over with food. I love it!

Yes, when we moved here 50 years ago, there was a group of people that came with a basket of goodies to welcome you into the neighborhood. I don't know if that exists anymore.
I met a lot of people walking my first child around the hood and a lot of the neighbors had little ones too. They are all grown and gone but us seniors are still here and still friends.

Neighbors are the greatest! Now, excuse me while I put on my high heels and howl at the moon. Watch out for the worms!

La Bella Luna. Reminds me of Moonstruck. The Movie. Has some of my most fave one liners. And as an avid gardener I am quite brave and keep a firm upper lip when I encounter those squiggly, wiggly, friendly things. Very bold and brazen as long as I am wearing gloves!

I don't like worms, but I do like gardening and I can't wait to start with my seedlings.

"Cause when you love 'em, they drive you crazy, because they know they can. But you like him?"

Oh, dear. Twigs on twigs.

Does everyone stay up late to read Mia's blog? I log on before I go to bed, check my email and hit Mia's blog. Good for Monkeyboy, he is enjoying it, and that's the best thing. Watch those hits, Bean, especially on the bean. Twigs, are you in the picture of the twigs? And Ginger, you sound like you have the best world of all.

I do, Nate. Because she blogs about things that are fun. My neighbors are just that. We say hello, we sometimes talk over trash night when we are putting out trash. I think I could call on them if there were a problem. I lke my neighborhood. And inquiring minds want to know. Does Tim really wear high heels? AND, does he buy them from SassySam?

Watch those high heels in the mud, Tim, it takes some practice to not sink into the ground and fall on your face. Oh, and if you wear the open toed ones, well, you get the picture.

I remember those folks, Ginger. When we moved into our house when I was a kid, they came with a big basket of goodies. I think they were called the Welcome Wagon. They gave my mom names of people, like babysitters and doctors and such. I don't think they are around anymore.
