Sometimes...

When does my world revolve around food?  Always.  Kate and I had lunch at Peppi's.  Cheese fries, the best in the world. Burgers on a hoagie bun. The best.  Tammi and I eat there as do Kate and I.  It is a message at 8 AM...Peppi's?  Lunch?  Makes my day.  And having to talk Kate into Penn Avenue on as opposed to North Side one.  Pros and Cons?  North Side, cleaner, more tables.  Cons:  Have to pay cash.  When did that begin?  I never carry cash.  When we ordered and they told us cash, Kate and I are digging in our pockets for money.  We had to give up the fries that day.  Sad.  Penn Avenue..well, let me just say it has the feel of a diner.  Not so clean (and there were not wood shavings in your hoagie, Kate), air conditioner blasting, even in the winter, limited seating...Pros...free parking, ambiance.  Food.  Love to plan around lunch or dinner with my friends.  There is something about food and sharing laughter and fun.  I love it.
Had fun with the kids, individually. Alyssa, Matt and Katie.  Matt had a really good game...in two innings, 2 hits, 6 strike outs.  How much better can it be?
This weather is incredible.  Sunny, 75 degrees, a little rain. I love it.  I love the trees being green, the grass sparkling in the morning dew. The angle of the sun at sunset.
OK, let's talk about the Pens. They are ahead by one game.  Last night they won 4-0.  They played well,  I won't talk about the game before that.  Even with a lead of 4, at the last two minutes of the game I was biting my nails (not really, that would ruin my polish).  I talked to my friend, Carolyn, yesterday.  She has season tickets and said IF they make the next round she will see about selling us her seats.
Wednesday is story time at Phipps.  I love seeing these kids.  Is there anything more wonderful than a little girl dressed up and looking pleased with the way she looks? Actually, is there anything better than anyone looking pleased with the way they look?  Can I just say again...women coming into Phipps, extremely short dresses, spikey heels, pulling bottom of dress down, top of dress up, wobbling on heels?  Do you really think it looks attractive? And how about the women who come in with flip flops and formal dress only to change into heels?  Hello?  You look ridiculous. You really do.
We are crazy busy with schools and tours.  And can I just say, there are the school kids who are loud, rude and obnoxious.  Then today we had a group that was 32 seven and eight year old that were amazing.  Polite, quiet and such a pleasure to be around.  I love the kids, I really do, but there are some who are so obnoxious that are so hard with whom to connect.
Katie is in Tarzan this week and next.  If you are here in Pittsburgh and have a chance to go see it, please do so.  It should be amazing.
Time to clean the house.  By the way, I have begun to kill the stink bugs.  No more nice guy here.  No more opening the window and shouting "be free".  The one who buzzed my head the other night did it.  No more nice guy.  Sorry to my animal rights friends...it was one of them who said...."KILL THEM".  I did, and I am not sad about it.

I have to admit, that lunch looks pretty good! I think most people associate food with friends and family and good times. We try to have dinner together as a family at least 4-5 times a week. Sometimes it's a struggle, but I think it is important.
Glad to hear Tim is doing his job in cheering for the Pens. And how exciting to go to a play off game of any kind.
Break a leg, Katie, and have fun!

Diners are the best! Food is usually really good. Don't know about the wood chips. Just pretend they are onions.
Good for the Pens! Exciting times in Pittsburgh sports right now with the Pens and Pirates, I guess.
We are into little league and it's fun to watch, that's for sure.
We had Junior prom here last week...Senior Prom is later, but the girl next door had all her friends over for a party before hand. And you are right, their dresses were short and strapless worn with heels that they couldn't walk in. Kind of amusing, but I am sure they thought they looked wonderful. So quick to want to grow up, I guess.

Also watched the Pens last night and it was amazing and nerve wracking. Those Islanders are so fast but Crosby beat them out on one goal that was spectacular. I read in the paper that they (Islanders) had 14 shots in the last 11 minutes of the game. Now you know why I was so nervous. Three cheers for our goalie!!

On a more relaxed note, we always .forward to dinner with our friends. We eat at some great places and some turn out not so good but we have fun anyway.
We have run into some Proms and enjoy seeing them all dressed up in their finery. Have run into some weddings too. Remember that Mia?

I agree with Jennifer, diners are fun, and the food is generally very good, though not so healthy, but who cares? Wood chips in the sandwich? Hmmm, guess you could pretend it is onions.
I saw that game. My husband watched it on NHL network and it was exciting. Would have been better if the Flyers were in it, but the Penguins did look good.
It is the season for school outings. I guess the teachers are sick of the kids in the classroom and it's always nice to take a break and see something that is fun and educational.
As far as I know, we don't have stink bugs. Sounds awful!

Not that I am a big fan of the Mets, but you beat us tonight, Mia. And that game last night was awful for us. I have to say, I am surprised that it has gone on as long as it has. I thought you would have it wrapped up.
I agree, diners are the best. We have a couple here in the city that are excellent. Maybe on one of your trips here you can try some. I have to say, those fries look mighty good!
So you have resorted to killing the beasts that inhabit your dwelling. I have never had any qualms about that. I kill spiders, mice...anything that is not invited into my home. Wait, that sounds bad. I kill creatures that come into the home uninvited that might crawl over me while I am sleeping. Hmmm, ok, I'll let it go at that.
I would say good luck to the Pens, but I can't.

I had the same feeling, Mia. When they took to the ice, I just had a feeling they were going to do it. I will be going to the game 7 if there is one. They are going to have a tough one tomorrow.
I eat at Peppi's on the NS. I don't know when they stopped taking cards...Pamela's does the same thing. It's all about having to pay the credit card everytime they accept a card. Costs them too much in this economy, I guess.
Good luck to Matt and Katie. I saw that Tarzan was at the Byham. Nice venue.

Well, The Pens did it, barely. Should have had that series in four, but we'll take it. Now for more nail biting.
Stink bugs here seem to be subsiding, thank goodness. They are disgusting, and yes, Mia, I kill everyone I see. Amazing how we can send men into space but can't figure out a way to kill these creatures except one by one.
Kids are still up, pumped up by the game. Time to get everyone settled.

All this cheering makes me tired.

Field trips were always something to look forward to when I was in school. A day away, no tests. The bus ride wasn't particularly nice, someone usually got sick.
Our kids look forward to it also.
I saw that the Penguins won last night also. So, what happens now?
I love the music of Tarzan. Hope Katie is having fun with it.

I agree Bill, the stink bugs do not seem to be as bad this year. However, it seems to be the year of the fly in our house. I have killed more in the past few days than I have in a decade.

I learned to keep a "secret" twenty in my wallet from a friend. You have to hide it and "forget" about it unless you have an emergency. Like being at Peppi's, ordering cheese fries and learning that they only take cash. Then, if you use it, you must replace it.

Happy Mother's Day!

I always find some money in pockets when I change from summer to winter clothes or vice versa. Works in coats, too. It seems more and more places around here are requiring cash and not accepting credit cards. I think it has to do with people using cards for small amounts and the vendor having to pay the credit card company a percentage of the bill in a fee.
We have a diner here that I absolutely love. The have breakfast that is to die for. You can see the griddle and watch them make your breakfast. The food is always fresh, hot and reasonably priced. I try to go there at least a couple of times a month. And yes, you have to pay cash!
Looks like the Pens made it to the next level. Hope you get the tickets for the game, Mia.

You can take a break, Tim. I think I heard the next Penguins game is not until Wednesday.
We don't have many diners around here. I think there is a couple on the other side of town near the interstate, but I don't get over there much. I like the small restaurants rather than the chain restaurants. Food in the chains all taste the same.
Thank goodness we don't have stink bugs here, they sound awful. However, we are being invaded by those stupid ants. We get them every spring.

Ahhh, to dress up and look cool. Short, strapless dresses, high, high heels, makeup. To be that age again! Now I wear low heels, strapless went by the wayside with children and short is just uncomfortable. Some of them look cute, others should probably check their mirrors.
Food brings people together. I love to cook for big get togethers, probably should have been a caterer. But just the act of preparing food, for me, is so theraputic. And sitting down to enjoy a meal with family and friends is the best ever.
Those fries look delicious!
